MOVING up in the name of art is Ngwelezane-born singer Anelle Ngwenya.

The multi-talented 23-year-old singer, dancer, model and actress is making waves in the entertainment industry and shining above the rest.

She will soon represent South Africa in New York at the prestigious International Arts Talent Showcase.

Her journey to the United States started when she auditioned for the show in Richards Bay last year.

She impressed the judges with her vibrant voice and outshone hundreds of hopefuls.

She is definitely no stranger to Zululand, and has performed with some of biggest names in the business.

Her passion for music started when she was part of a gospel group, Healing Sounds.

‘I love music. It’s part of who I am,’ she said.

‘I don’t like to put myself in a box or a category because I sing from gospel to jazz and Afro pop,’

The emerging star has shared the stage with, among others, Zakes Bantwani, Gloria Broman, Ntokozo Mbambo, Nqubeka Mbatha and Ringo Madlingozi.

She recently wowed audiences during the beach festival in Richards Bay and the Africa Day Festival.

This young artist is also known for her charity work. She is especially passionate about young children.

Last year she donated school uniforms for 31 pupils at Phesheya Primary School in Ngwelezane as part of giving back to her community.

‘I believe giving is part of life. When you do good to others, great things happen to you,’
