Learners and NGOs benefit from Mondi investment

More than 4125 entrants and 24 locals schools were represented at this year’s Mondi Schools Challenge.

Apart from great prize money for the schools with the most finishers, a whopping R410 000 was invested back into the community through this annual event.

A donation of R15 000 each was given to non-government organisations SANCA Zululand, Amangwe Village, Empangeni Family Care, Lifeline Zululand and Richards Bay Family Care.

Amangwe Village commended Mondi:

We are extremely appreciative of the opportunity that Mondi creates for local NGOs to generate an income during the Mondi Schools Challenge. It is not only an opportunity to raise funds, but also to market the services that Amangwe renders.

This year was very special because we were privileged to have four members of the Amangwe Gilrs Club ‘Shining Stars’ with us.

It was the first time for these young girls to be exposed to an event like this and at the same time create in them a sense of community involvement and giving back to the community.

The funds allocated to Amangwe will be utilised in our community development programmes.

The following schools had the most entrants and walked away with prize money:

  •  1st prize: Richards Bay Primary School – R21 000

  • 2nd prize: Arboretum Primary – R17 000

  • 3rd prize: Bay Primary – R15 000

  • School with the most spirit: Richards Bay Christian School – R5000

  • Lucky draw winner: Felixton College – R10 000

‘Thank you for making the Mondi Schools Challenge a resounding success!’
