THREE people were critically injured in an accident involving a truck and a taxi at the John Ross and N2 intersection on Sunday morning.

uMhlathuze Fire and Rescue used the Jaws of Life to extract the driver and two passengers from the taxi after they had been entrapped.

All three patients were stabilised at the scene before being transported to Ngwelezana Hospital for further treatment.

According to reports the truck, coming off the N2, turned towards Richards Bay when the taxi, travelling towards Empangeni on the John Ross, failed to stop in time, colliding with the truck.

Traffic in all three directions was disrupted.
