Avis Van Rental – fit to drive winners

How do you get nine Zululand Observer team members to Jo’burg – or more importantly, to King Shaka International Airport – to attend the annual Caxton Excellence Awards?

You partner with Avis Van Rental!  #avisvanrentaltotherescue

Upon hearing that nine ZO staff had been selected as finalists AND that our Avis OLLI online marketing campaign was among the top entries, Avis Van Rental sponsored a Toyota Quantum 14 seater bus to get us all to the airport, and back home the following day, in absolute luxurious comfort.  #thankyouavisvanrental

Val, our motoring journalist (finalist: Best Columnist), was the designated driver of our sponsored Toyota Quantum bus.  #getmetothecaxtons

‘Picking up the hire vehicle from Avis Van Rental in Richards Bay was quick and easy,’ he says, ‘The staff are friendly and proficient, so the documentation and vehicle inspection took only 25 minutes, and then I was on the road.’

Our video fundi Orrin Singh (finalist: Multimedia Journalist of the Year) recorded parts of our journey inside the Avis van.

Grateful that we didn’t have to drive our own vehicles all the way to Durban, all we could do was sit back (on recliner seats, each equipped with its own cup holder), relax and watch KZN come alive as we left our Empangeni office bright and early at 5am.

The passengers gave a huge thumbs up for the following:

  • No need to face early morning rush hour traffic ourselves
  • A huge saving on fuel and toll fees, as we did not have to travel in our own separate vehicles
  • A luxurious ride with air conditioning, comfortable seats and super spacious leg room (plus cup holders!)
  • Boot space big enough to fit all our luggage (and awards the following day)
  • A killer sound system to set the perfect tone

‘The Avis branch at King Shaka International Airport is just as proficient and were extremely helpful and courteous. Never was there any standing around, waiting for service,’ said Val.

At the airport, we were met by an Avis employee even before we exited the vehicle. He showed us where to park, and from there guided us in all the right directions.

‘This is top class service. Thank you, Avis!’

Now all we had to do was book in our luggage and wait to board the plane.

Back at King Shaka International Airport the following day, it took Val just a few short minutes to collect our Avis Van Rental sponsored bus.

The friendly Avis staff recognised him immediately and assisted him quickly, efficiently and courteously. Before we knew it, we were all set and ready to head home.

Thank you, Val, for driving us home safely!

Thank you Avis Van Rental, for sponsoring the Toyota Quantum!

Thank you, colleagues, for a super fun outing.

And thank you, Caxton, for the recognition!

See you again next year!
