Nedbank Cup distraction for NRB

OTHER than the prestige of having made it to this stage, Richards Bay FC’s Nedbank Cup last 16 knockout match against Bloemfontein Celtic has little bearing on their National First Division season.

While they will want to give a good account of themselves, the away game should not cause them to lose focus on their real challenge: ensuring they remain outside of any relegation struggle.

With only seven league matches left it’s going to take every bit of concentration and application to ensure their first year in the NFD does not end in disappointment for players and fans.

The frontline fans had plenty to celebrate after NRB’s 1-0 home win over Tuks

Should they be relegated, it would take years – or a big cheque book that thus far has been absent – to get back to the point where a PSL place can be contemplated.

The team has performed well over the season, with scant reward.

The three points they gleaned after their 1-0 win over Tuks on Sunday has lifted spirits and renewed energy should propel them well out of the relegation zone.

NRB’s remaining fixtures are:

• 17 Mar vs TTM (A)

• 31 Mar vs Jomo Cosmos (H)

• 8 Apr vs Mthatha Bucks (A)

• 14 Apr vs Super Eagles (H)

• 21 Apr vs Black Leopards (A)

• 29 Apr vs Ubuntu (H)

• 6 May Mbombela (A)
