Cops weed out dagga stash

Constables PEL Ngema, LL Mpanza and SZ Zulu with the seized dagga packages

HUNDREDS of dagga packages were seized by police in eSikhaleni last Wednesday morning.

Empangeni Dog Unit members and eSikhawini police were conducting random searches in the area when they received tip-offs from community members.

A 49-year-old man was arrested and charged with dealing in illegal substances after police recovered bags of dagga in his house at eMadukwini.

Soon after the first arrest, a 37-year-old woman was also arrested in Mzingwenya.

The female suspect told police she had received the illegal goods from a supplier in Nquthu.

Both suspects will appear in the eSikhawini Magistrate’s Court today (Thursday).

According to eSikhawini police spokesperson, Captain Thembinkosi Mkhumane, police are on a mission to curb criminal activities in the area.

‘We will continue with surprise raids to ensure all those who break the law are put behind bars,’ he said.

He also requested residents to continue informing police about illegal activities.
