Pedal power for rural school children

Some of the children who received bicycles show they are ready to roll

THE Department of Transport visited 15 schools in the uMfolozi Municipality district to hand over 750 bicycles to deserving learners.

Each school received 50 bicycles.

Deputy Minister of Transport, Sindisiwe Chikunga, said the initiative is aimed at improving mobility for learners from rural and remote communities.

uMfolozi Mayor Smangaliso Mgenge reminded the community that the bicycles are strictly for the use by the learners and not for anyone else.
