uMkhanyakude municiaplity is back on track

uMkhanyakude Municipal Manager Sibusiso Bukhosini, Administrator Paul Maseko and District Mayor Solomon Mkhombo in discussion after a recent meeting

UMKHANYAKUDE District Municipality has urged all contractors who did not complete water projects owing to financial constraints, to return to their sites to finish their work.

Spokesman Mdu Dlamini said the municipality is now ready to meet all its financial obligations after the KZN government lifted a section 139 (b) ruling against the municipality.

Section 139 (b) allows the Cogta MEC to place a municipality under administration if it fails to meet its financial obligations.

‘Our district municipality has been under administration for almost two years.

‘When the current administration, led by Mayor Solomon Mkhombo, took over in 2016 it was discovered that uMkhanyakude was in financial crisis.

‘But they worked tirelessly to bring the situation back to normal.

‘Our financial resources are now sufficient to cover our current obligations. We are financially fit again.

‘We call on all contractors to return and complete their projects as they will be paid on time,’ said Dlamini.

He said the municipality has appointed a municipal manager, chief financial officer and technical director to ensure stability in the municipality.

‘A municipal manager with a good track record was appointed. He attained three clean audits while working at uMhlabuyalingana and has plenty of experience and we strongly believe he will be able to turn things around.’

Dlamini added they now have strict measures in place to deal with corruption and maladministration.
