LOCAL schoolgirl first hockey teams (U18) and coaches will be utilising upcoming fixtures and tournaments to prepare for the Spar KZN Schoolgirls’ Hockey Challenge which will take place at Grantleigh on Saturday, 19 May.

The popular tournament starts in Glencoe at the end of February with the first of ten regional tournaments.

All regional winners will compete at the grand finale at St Mary’s DSG on 20 and 21 July.

Grantleigh managed to snatch the regional crown last year and will look to do the same in May.

Empangeni High has dominated this event in the past with five wins and is always in the mix.

St Catherine’s came in with a running chance last year and were narrowly edged out and will look to snatch their first title.
