Local Ace among top 1% in country for IT

Hilton Hoffmann of Grantleigh School achieved eight distinctions and was placed in the top 1% of candidates nationally in information technology

HILTON Hoffmann, Grantleigh School’s top performing learner from the Class of 2017, did the school proud by earning an impressive eight distinctions, with his information technology result placing him in the top 1% of candidates nationally in the subject.

He was awarded distinctions in accounting, Afrikaans first additional language, English home language, information technology, life orientation, life sciences, maths and physical sciences.

Hilton will soon be off to university to study medicine.

Ecstatic with his results, Hilton said while he had really knuckled down since choosing medicine as his desired career path, he had not expected to do quite so well.

‘I originally wanted to study actuarial sciences, but about six months through last year, I realised I would prefer a career in medicine.’

Grantleigh’s largest matric class to date, the Class of 2017 gained the school a 100% pass rate, with 96% of learners earning a bachelor’s degree pass, which is a university entrance exemption, and a total of more than 100 distinctions.

Six learners were placed in the top 1% of candidates per subject nationally.

‘I congratulate the Class of 2017 on their excellent results,’ said Grantleigh College Academic Head, Janet McGrath.

‘I would also like to commend the dedicated and inspirational teachers who guided, encouraged and motivated these young men and women.’
