Five murder suspects arrested at Empangeni Bus Rank

FIVE crime fugitives were arrested on Thursday night in Empangeni following a tip-off they were at Empangeni Bus Rank and were on their way to commit a crime.

Empangeni’s Crime Prevention team together with Empangeni K9 Unit worked on the information before swooping in.

They confronted the suspects, aged between 23 and 27, who were standing together next to a motor vehicle, and searched them.

One was found in the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The firearm, believed to be police issue, was identified as a 9mm pistol Z88 with a serial number filed and loaded with 16 live rounds.

The five are from Ocilwane area in KwaMthethwa Reserve.

One suspect appeared at the Empangeni magistrates court on Friday for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The suspects were then taken to KwaMbonambi Police Station for murder detention and also to Ntambanana Police Station in connection with another murder case.

The recovered firearm will be sent for ballistic tests.
