2000km and 20 game reserves to fight rhino poaching

Avis Van Rental is proud to be part of the One Land Love It (#OLLI2017) journey through the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal, an initiative of businessman Wayne Bolton who is cycling more than 2000km in an effort to make us aware that as South Africans, we are all jointly responsible for the protection and preservation of our natural heritage.

OLLI, a life-size fibreglass rhino, is accompanying Wayne on his journey on the ‘OLLI trolley’, which is being towed by the sponsored Avis Van Rental 4×4 double cab vehicle.

In an effort to make the 2000km journey as safe and comfortable as possible for Wayne’s support team, Avis Van Rental supplied their newest and highest spec 4×4 double cab for the expedition.

The team started their journey on 1 July from the Kragga Kamma game reserve in Port Elizabeth and have made their way to 20 reserves across the two provinces.

Wayne, OLLI and the support team reached Mozambique on 1 August.

The expedition will conclude with a breakfast in Durban with John Smit on 3 August, to raise funds for the Care For Wild rhino orphanage.

Nikki Bolton, Wayne’s spokesperson and wife, says it is wonderful to have a sponsor that sees itself as part of the OLLI family.

“We all want to make a difference and contribute to the conservation of our natural heritage; it’s about finding ways to do that. Avis have helped us to make that happen and through this collaboration we hope that we have also provided them with an avenue to do so.”

In reaction to this, Avis Van Rental’s General Manager, Leon Fourie, says:

“Statistics predict that up to 1 000 rhinos will be poached this year, the majority from KwaZulu-Natal. Driven by our brand promise to ‘Try Harder’,  Avis Van Rental is pleased to have partnered with Wayne Bolton in his journey of saving our rhinos, a unique part of South Africa’s natural heritage.”

The Avis Van Rental would have travelled about 5000km at the end of the One Land Love It (#OLLI2017) Frontier Ride.

Nikki says the vehicle has been very reliable.

“It’s great to know you have a suitable vehicle for towing a life-size rhino, especially since we were often on game park roads which can be challenging at times.”

Did you know that you could also rent a vehicle to go on a cross-country excursion?

Avis Van Rental offers a wide range of vehicles, including ½ ton and 1 ton bakkies, panel vans, double cabs, trucks and trailers for commercial and private use.
