What’s on this weekend

Here’s a quick look at what you can look forward to this weekend in Zululand:


Put on your dancing shoes and go to the Empangeni Civic Centre on Friday night for the Dance Academy Showcase.

Zululand’s chefs will battle it out to see who will be hailed the Dice Celebrity Chef of the Year. The event will take place this evening at the Umfolozi Casino Resort in Empangeni.

Zululanders should ready their voices as Umfolozi Casino Resorts regular karaoke session will take place this evening. Entry is free and the showdown begins at 8pm.

Local soccer coaches can attend a free workshop at the University of Zululand on Saturday. It will be held at the Sports Science lecture hall from 9am to 5pm. Registration start at 8:30am.

Solid Ground Church is hosting their popular annual winter market at their premises off the R102, near Felixton. Come through and experience a host of flavorful foods, drinks and crafts – gates open at 9:30am.

Support the Richards Bay SPCA’s monthly flea market between 9am and 1pm.

The eSikhaleni flea market, opposite the Buildit (next to the Complex) aims to attract people with an array of bargains and tasty foods.

If you’re planning a renovation, visit Tile Africa Empangeni on Saturday morning for their store’s relaunch and the change to win great prizes – be there early – doors open at 7:30am.

Sorted Sports Bar in Empangeni will host their weekly mini games. Teams of 6 will compete in touch rugby, soccer and volleyball to eventually be crowned the winners after six weeks. Entry is R30 per player and games begin at 11am.

Saturday is also race day at ZCBF, Richards Bay. See some 1660s, Super Saloons, Hotrods, 2L Pintos, Stockrods and Ninja Midgets in action on the racetrack. Racing starts at 6pm.

Top SA artists will share the stage during the Madiba Jive Music Concert at uMhlathuze Sports Complex tomorrow. Organised by Zwide Events, the show will include a top notch line-up of artists, including award-wining hip hop artist AKA and king of the airwaves, DJ Fresh. The local celebration is in honour of Nelson Mandela and will also offer a platform for local artists.
