Bumper fishing week for locals

Local angler Dean Reddy landed this beautiful Garrick earlier this year

DESPITE the windy and not so great fishing conditions over the past week, fisherman have landed some decent fish.

Honeycomb Rays have been coming out in the Kosi Bay area on big throw baits, which fisherman intend for edible fish.

But despite that, beautiful fish have been coming out of the lakes with reports of Grunter, Kingfish and Rock Salmon being on the bite.

Small live baits have been the secret for success with the Rock Salmon and Kingfish.

Sodwana Bay on the other hand has been relatively quiet, with a few stumpies, Bonefish and Three-Spotted Pompano coming out.

The Pompano have been caught with small bullet spoons, with the stumpies and Bonefish biting on small chokka and sealice baits.

Cape Vidal has seen plenty of Southern Pompano, Three-Spotted Pompano and Snoek.

The Southern Pompano have failed to resist sealice and small chokka baits.

Richards Bay has produced a few small Kob as well as small Milk Sharks and Shad.

The milkies were caught on shad traces and sardine baits, with the odd Zambezi Shark taking the bigger slide baits.

Anglers working the Tugela River have caught some Kob and Garrick with live Mullet and Shad.

Deep sea

Deep sea anglers working the Sodwana to Maphelane area have reaped success with decent sized Couta and Snoek.

Tuna have been coming out as well on live baits and Halco Lazer Pro 120s.

St Lucia to Cape Vidal have not been too successful in comparison to previous weeks.

There have been a few small Garrick around taking small poppers and plugs quite close to the back line.

There have also been a few small Kob in the shallower water hunting the Mullet and Shad.

Further out, there have been reports of a few small Tuna and Couta as well a few hookups of Sailfish.
