New heroin strain in Richards Bay

POLICE and the Meerensee Community Police Forum (CPF) Domestic Abuse Task Team are investigating a new strain of heroin being sold in Richards Bay which is of poor quality and in high toxicity levels.

CPF’s Corrie Pretorius said samples of the drug have been sent to a laboratory in Johannesburg for analysis.

‘We need to ascertain what poisonous ingredients are used in the drug as it poses a serious risk to users.

‘One user overdosed on it on Monday night, but we are proud to say his death was averted by our response team.

‘The team has so far helped seven people and we have had 14 callouts since the group’s inception.

‘This task team is being rolled out to Arbovlei CPF and they will have an independent group of patrollers that will react and assist in their area.’
