GRANTLEIGH School’s first girls hockey side, coached by Garth Bishop, have been putting in the hard yards leading into the grand finals of the Spar KZN Schoolgirls Hockey Challenge that takes place at St Mary’s DSG in Kloof over the weekend.

The local private school qualified for the finals after winning their regional stage earlier this year.
They will join other regional winners Durban Girls College, Ferrum High School, St Anne’s, St Mary’s DSG, Wartburg Kirchdorf, Amanzimtoti High School, King Edward High School, Our Lady of Fatima and St John’s DSG.

This will be Grantleigh’s third appearance in the grand finals.

‘I am very happy with the work we have put in leading into this tournament and am pleased with where we are. We have a good, balanced squad and go into this tournament aiming to make at least the semi-finals.

Once in the knock-outs, anything can happen,’ said Bishop. Grantleigh’s best finish has been eighth on two occasions.
