New Renault Kwid offers affordable commuting

The Renault Kwid is one of SA’s most affordable cars. With a base price of R124 900, it opens doors for those on a tight budget. Add to that an established, country-wide dealer network, and you cannot go wrong.

Under the bonnet

The Renault Kwid comes with a three-cylinder, 50Kw petrol engine which is quite adequate for daily commuting. A real life fuel economy figure of 5.5-litres to 100km makes it very cheap to run and even more budget friendly. Driven through the five-speed manual gearbox and weighing only 700kg, the Kwid has no problem keeping up with busy morning traffic. Another plus is the car’s short overhangs and 180mm ground clearance which take care of parking and rough roads.

Convenience features

Despite the Renault Kwid being an entry-level vehicle, the features/equipment list looks substantial.

The Dynamique is the more comprehensive of the two models sold in SA and features the MediaNav navigation/multimedia system replete with a 7-inch touchscreen display, radio with Bluetooth connectivity. There are height-adjustable seats at the front, with power steering and one-touch lane changing indicators. Electric front windows and air conditioning, as well as plenty of oddment storage spaces are afforded.

Pricing and after-sales support

The new Renault Kwid comes standard with a five-year/150 000km mechanical warranty and a six-year anti-corrosion warranty. Services take place at 15 000km intervals. Optional service plans are available.
