EHS going for a song!

The talented members of the Empangeni High School choir recently swept the boards at the provincial ATKV choral finals, winning gold and securing invitations to two national events this year

FINANCIAL constraints could see the EHS choir missing their chance to compete in two national events in July and August.

The choral group have had massive success of late, which has seen them qualify for both the national finals of the SA Schools Choral Eisteddfod, and the finals of the ATKV (Afrikaanse Taal en Kultuurvereeniging) competition taking place in Pretoria and Johannesburg respectively.

‘The school and its learners have made a concerted effort to raise the R90 000 required for the choir members to participate in both events, but they are still a very long way from reaching their target and the deadline for final payment is just around the corner,’ said EHS spokesperson Julie da Silva.

‘This is a tremendous achievement for our children, and we would like to appeal to all Zululanders to assist if they can.’

She said there are just on one hundred learners in the choir and that many of their parents cannot afford to contribute much toward the cost of the trips.

‘Every contribution, great or small, will be hugely appreciated to make the dreams of these learners a reality,’ said Da Silva.

‘They have been extremely committed, working long hours to get to this standard, and it will be tragic if we as a community cannot pull together to ensure they make it to the nationals.’
