ANGLERS competing in the Richards Bay Ski Boat Club’s Easter fishing bonanza got into the fund-raising spirit, helping to raise thousands for SAVF’s (Suid Afrikaanse Vrouefederasie) Tekkie Tax charity drive.

Apart from selling Tekkie Tax laces and stickers, a bottle of liquid refreshment was auctioned, which alone raised more than R7 000.

Schalk Bloem got the ball rolling when he paid R2 500 for the bottle before donating it back to Tersia Erasmus, a SAVF representative, for re-auctioning.

Unable to turn down auctioneer Tiaan van der Merwe’s prodding, Fred van Rensburg then paid a further R5 000 for the bottle.

Tekkie Tax is an annual national charity fund-raiser, culminating in Tekkie Tax Day, this year on 26 May.

Twelve national beneficiaries represent more than 1 000 local non-profit organisations.

The beneficiaries are Epilepsy SA, Meals on Wheels, Child Welfare SA, SOS Children’s Villages, CHOC (Childhood Cancer Foundation), Special Olympics SA, CANSA, Imisebeyelanga Services, VVA, NG Welsyn, Endurocad, SAVF and various local animal welfare organisations.

With five categories to choose from – animals, bring hope, children, disability and education – Tekkie Tax is an assured way to help support a cause close to your heart.

Falling under the ‘bring hope’ category, SAVF spends the money it raises on our community’s most vulnerable, from children to old age pensioners and everyone in-between.

The Richards Bay SAVF branch has organised a Tekkie Tax day from 10am to 2pm on 26 May at Meerensee Mall.

Daniel Hofman will provide the day’s entertainment, while there will also be market and food stalls.

Sales of the stickers and laces has already begun, so there is no need to wait until Tekkie Tax Day to buy.

The idea is to buy them beforehand and wear your tekkies to work on 26 May, complete with your Tekkie Tax laces, or don your sticker.

Stickers cost just R10, while the Tekkie Tag shoelaces are R35.

T-shirts are also being sold at R75 for children and R95 for adults, but orders for these must be placed.

Businesses are invited to book their spot at the SAVF Tekkie Tax Day. Stands can be secured for just R30.

For more information, or to book a stand, contact SAVF’s Irma Dreyer on 082 5108079.
