ZO wins Newspaper of the Year Award

ZULULAND Observer employees are beaming with joy and pride this morning after scooping the prestigious Sold Newspaper of the Year Award for 2016, out of a stable of 138 newspapers countrywide.

Last night, ZO Editor Dave Savides received the accolade at the glittering Caxton Awards held at the Silverstar Casino in Krugersdorp, Gauteng.

Sales Manager Yolande Veldsman and Graphic Designer Theresa Botha scooped the Best Major advertisement Feature/Supplement in Print and/or Digital category  for Siyakha Education Trust SHOUT English grade 4 -7 32  page Educational supplement , while Bernice Gertzen finished in the top three for Advertising Designer of the Year.

Sub-editor Carl de Villiers was a finalist in two categories namely Best Headline Writing  and Best Regular Column.

Larry Bentley was runner up for Best Human – Interest Photograph in Walking to town (Eyethu Zululand Observer).

‘We are very proud of the entire team,’ said Savides.

‘The judges were impressed by the strength of the entire paper, from the editorial content to the overall layout.

‘We were praised for being an outstanding product which well serves its readers and advertisers.

‘What an amazing way for ZO Founder Regina Anthony to bow out – a definite proud moment for us all,’ he said.

The Newspaper of the Year Award is chosen based on the editorial content as well as the layout design, overall production of the paper and income revenue.

The ZO nabbed the award based on three editions that were submitted from throughout 2016.
