Accountancy bursaries available

THE South African Institute of Chartered Accountants’ (SAICA) Thuthuka Bursary Fund (TBF) will be offering more than 300 bursaries to the matric class of 2017 to study towards chartered accountancy next year.

As part of transforming the chartered accountancy profession, SAICA is on a mission to increase the intake of talented African and Coloured matric learners wishing to pursue a career in this profession.

Fund Project Director Nthato Selebi said, ‘The TBF model is unique in that it offers qualifying African and Coloured learners more than just money for tuition, accommodation, books, food and allowances.

‘Our students receive full support, which includes study skills, induction, networking, emotional support, mentorship and counselling, life skills and more. ‘They are also continuously monitored by our university programme directors to ensure preventative action and remedial steps as and when a student needs them.’

Launched 13 years ago, the fund has produced 350 fully qualified CAs, an amazing achievement considering it takes a minimum of seven years to qualify.

It has also generated more than 900 BCom degrees, 600 honours degrees and 790 trainees.
