Director

Gavin Anthony
Marketing Director of the Zululand Observer publications and Manager of Darwain Printing Works, Gavin Anthony has extensive marketing and advertising strategy experience. He was initially involved in the formative years of the newspaper when it made a quantam transformation from a localised community newspaper to a regional publication. He has lived in Zululand for most of his life and knows the region's business community intimately. Under his initiative the Bay Watch, North Watch, eShowe Watch and Eastern Watch were established thus giving Zululanders blanket coverage of news, views and additional advertising mileage.

Why the Regional Press?

The vibrant regional and community press is regarded as the only sector of the print media that is showing growth. The reason is simple. The regional press has a niche market - it speaks directly to its readers and the journalists are intimately involved in the community. Readership surveys show that this medium plays an integral part in positive change enhancing the quality of life of the community and builds a viable community networking system for the good of all.

DICE - Do I Care Enough

Gavin Anthony

In 1976 Reg Anthony founded an organisation that has become a living challenge - D.I.C.E. Do I Care Enough? Today DICE has become a catalyst for a myriad of actions to improve the lot of numerous people in Zululand who face a life of disadvantage or poverty. The organisation is synonymous with child care and is deeply involved in the upliftment of the quality of life within the community, and in the rural areas. DICE’s mission is the upliftment of the people of Zululand through the promotion of peace, stability and reconstruction. Providing care to those less fortunate in the community in the hope that they too will spread goodwill. In view of its continued involvement within the community the DICE Organisation is now a registered Section 21 Company i.e. a non-profit organisation. It works hand in hand with the Departments of Social Welfare and Education and has become an integral part in the social well being of the community of Zululand.

DICE does not have a label. Nor does it have any politics. Its commitment is to people - to improve them, to develop them and to help them to help themselves. Its top priority is the care of children.
