Five cousins found dead in freezer

Young children suffocated and died in an unused freezer

A GRANDMOTHER’S nightmare became a reality when she recovered the bodies of her five young grandchildren locked inside an unused freezer at Kakamas in the Northern Cape province.

Police spokesperson Major Dimakatso Mooi confirmed that the children were all cousins between the ages of three and seven-years-old.

‘The grandmother found them all suffocated inside an old freezer in the yard. It is believed the freezer locked accidentally while the kids were playing inside it,’ said Mooi.

‘The police appeal to parents or children’s caretakers to take responsibility in ensuring their safety at all times. Children should not be left unattended, and yards must be cleared of old equipment and scraps that can cause harm to children,’ said Mooi.
