Multi-sport endurance challenge

THE annual Shaka Challenge hosted by the Zululand Kayak Club in association with the Richards Bay Athletics Club and Zululand Cycling Club, will take place on Saturday, 26 August at the Zululand Kayak Club in Meerensee.

The four individual events challenge athletes throughout the day in a 10km trail run, 22km canoe race, 10km stand-up paddle race and 10km mountain bike ride.

The trail run will start at 7am at a cost of R40, followed by the stand-up paddle race at 10am (R35), then the canoe race at 10.30am (R120), with the mountain bike ride ending off the day’s activities at 2pm (R30).

Registration takes place on the day from 7am.

The popular annual Mouth to Mouth Challenge will take place on Saturday, 30 September.

This year will see competitors paddling from Pelican Island to Mtunzini beach.

The 40km race will see eight-time world marathon champion Hank McGregor and South African Lifeguard paddler Matt Bouwman battling it out with locals for the title.
