WATCH: Taking stock of flood damage

Children walking through the streets of Mzingazi in knee-high water

FAMILIES in Mzingazi are still dealing with the aftermath of the weekend’s heavy rain, where more than 20 homes were flooded.

According to Mzingazi community worker Sharon Mdletshe, nine households were under water as the area does not have a storm water drainage system.

Residents are still busy with cleanup operations as houses were flooded and roads and pathways washed away.

Trapped – this Mzingazi resident could not drive out of his driveway on Monday after the heavy weekend rains

‘At these affected premises, residents could not remove their vehicles from their yards as the driveways had been flooded, as well as the garages and inside the houses.

‘The families’ furniture and all household items were destroyed and the vehicles were in high water as well.

‘We have also been assisting other households with blankets, clothing and other household items,’ said Mdletshe.
