UPDATE: Burst water pipes caused phone service shutdown

TWO burst water pipes which caused damage to Telkom’s underground cables in Empangeni, has left a number of businesses and homes without functioning telephone lines for more than a week.

‘We currently have two underground cable breaks in Empangeni. This break was caused by a major water pipe that burst and saturated both cables,’ Telkom said in a statement.

It said the municipality had to first repair the broken water pipe before repairs to the damaged cables could be undertaken.

‘The municipality was able to repair the burst water pipe on Tuesday and we have since commenced the replacement of one of the cables. Full services should be restored by Monday (today).
