Social media blows up over #ORTamboHeist and the #Lamborghini suspect

Last week it emerged that security guards at the OR Tambo International Airport are among five more suspects arrested for the daring R200- million heist that occurred on 7 March – including one found with a multimillion- rand Lamborghini.

According to reports a 39-year-old Centurion resident was arrested and found in possession of a Lamborghini worth R5-million, and an undisclosed amount of money.

He was arrested after posting a picture of himself with new ride, on Facebook – talk about socially unacceptable – and of course South Africans couldn’t resist and took to twitter with an array of memes and comical tweets.

The Sowetan reported that the Hawks, working with the provincial tracking team and crime intelligence in Limpopo, arrested four suspects in Soshanguve, Tembisa, Norkem Park and at an exclusive estate in Centurion, Tshwane.

According to Times Live three of the men are security guards at Africa’s busiest airport, and one had guarded the vault in which the stolen currency was kept.

Another man, a foreign national, has been arrested for allegedly cloning the police vehicle used in the heist.

The five are aged between 30 and 40.

Two of them have already appeared before the Kempton Park Magistrate’’s Court and face armed robbery charges.

Police are yet to confirm whether part of the money has been recovered and are reportedly investigating the exact amount stolen, the currency and the intended destination.

Meanwhile an Orange Grove resident recently foiled a robbery by filming three suspects trying to break through his gate.

The video gained international attention after going viral and even featured on Australia’s Nine News network.
