Three robbery suspects shot at Pongola

Bundles of R100 and Swaziland 100 Lilangeni notes were recovered from the dead robbers

PONGOLA police shot and killed three robbers in a shoot-out at a local supermarket on Sunday.

Acting on information that armed men were planning to rob the supermarket, the police set up an observation point at the premises.

When the robbers arrived and confronted, a gun battle ensued.

Three robbers were fatally wounded and a pistol, live ammunition and a toy gun were recovered at the scene.

Police also recovered an undisclosed amount of cash and a bakkie, allegedly stolen during the robbery.

KZN Acting Provincial Police Commissioner, Maj Gen Bheki Langa, commended the police and expressed gratitude that none of the officers involved in the shoot-out had been injured.
