Boxing talent on parade

Seen here with two of Saturday’s contenders, Bianca Nortje and Joshua Pretorius, former SA cruiserweight champion Freddie Rafferty says boxing tournaments at Nseleni Community Centre are an exciting new local platform to showcase and grow Zululand talent

FORMER SA cruiserweight champion, Freddie ‘Rafferty’ Horn, says boxing tournaments at the Nseleni Community Centre are an exciting new local platform to showcase and grow Zululand talent.

Ploughing back into the sport that made him famous, he is excited ahead of another big event this Saturday when fighters from his stable will trade leather with a number of combatants from other clubs.

Freddie’s contingent includes Joshua Pretorius, aka ‘Red Beast’, who took just seconds to win his first bout at the uMhlathuze Olympic Style Boxing Organisation’s novice tournament held at the same venue last month.

Freddie is also pushing Bianca Nortje – another impressive first time winner, along with Paul Stoltz and Storm Nel.

Weigh-in will start at 6am and with the large number of fights lined up, the event is expected to continue all day.
