Die another day

MISTY the adventurous Siamese cat was as fit as a fiddle on Friday morning after surviving a trip to her mom’s workplace at the Zululand Observer’s Empangeni offices in the engine compartment of her car.

ZO Digital Marketing Consultant Wannita Smith had spent the entire night searching for her beloved pet who had sneaked off just before bedtime.

‘She normally sleeps in my bed every night, sits where I am and follows me around the house. But from around 9.30pm, I could not find her anywhere,’ said Wannita.

The night passed without any sign of Misty and Wannita did a final check in her vehicle before she left for work on Friday morning.

‘As I parked the car, I heard a cat crying out. I jacked the car up and then saw her tail sticking out of an engine compartment.

‘I feared the worst at this point and called a colleague to get help from the local veterinary clinic next to our offices.

As we lifted the vehicle, a man from the local vet pulled her out from the bottom of the compartment.’

A shaken Misty then leapt into mom’s arms to seek comfort. Apart from a slight scratch on her right leg, the feline adventurer had escaped the ordeal unscathed.

Now described as the ultimate survivor, this is the second time Misty, aka ‘007’, has escaped death.

At just four-weeks-old, Wannita had rescued the traumatised kitten from under a wood pile in Mtunzini.

‘She’s obviously going through her nine lives, but after a rough night I’m just happy my baby is safe and sound!’
